Found a 2004 blog about letterpress relics in an Asheville print shop
I stumbled into a back room of a shop off Lexington Avenue last Saturday and the owner pointed me to this blog by an old typesetter who documents every surviving press east of the Mississippi. It has photos of machines still in use and stories from the guys who ran them, but the last post was from 2019, which made me wonder how many of those presses are even still around now. Anybody else collect dead hobby blogs like this, or know one that covers a different trade?
Man, dead blogs are the best blogs. That typesetter probably spent hours uploading those press photos one by one, then just stopped cold in 2019. There's a guy who ran a site about old diner coffee cups, last update 2016, and I still check it like it might come back. The machines in that Asheville post are probably half scrapped by now, which is a bummer. Those blogs are like time capsules nobody meant to make.
