The old smith in Mystic CT grabbed my tongs and bent the reins outward, said I was gripping too hard
Was at a demo day in Mystic CT back in June watching a guy named Ray work. I was struggling all morning with my 3/8 inch stock slipping since my grip was white knuckled. Ray walked over, took my tongs, and bent the reins out maybe 2 inches without saying a word. He handed them back and said 'give the jaw a chance to bite before you squeeze the life out of it.' Two years of fighting my tongs and it was the rein angle the whole time. Anyone else run their tongs wider than feels natural at first?
