Overheard a customer at the hardware store call a forged hook 'just a bent nail'

It made me think about how little people see the work behind simple forged items. I spent an hour drawing out and scrolling that piece from a 3/8 inch square bar. Do you find yourself explaining the process to folks who don't get it?

Sometimes the simplest things take the most skill.

It's a solid point, @claire992. My grandpa could make a perfect fried egg with just a pan and butter, a thing I've never managed. The fancy omelettes are easier for me, which makes no sense. That kind of quiet skill is hard to explain.
