My forge blower quit halfway through the 6th leaf on a garden gate and I'm torn on fixing vs replacing
Saturday morning I was about 40 minutes into a leaf scroll for a garden gate when the old hand crank blower on my coal forge just stopped catching, and after taking the gearbox apart I found a cracked tooth on the drive gear. I can get a replacement gear machined at the shop over in Millville for around $85 and keep the original blower, or I can put that toward a new electric blower and skip the cranking forever. Part of me likes the hand crank because it's quiet and I can feel the fire through it, but I also don't want to be stuck mid-project again. Which way would you go, fix the old one or finally make the switch?
