Can we talk about quench tanks, I thought the whole coffee can thing was a myth until last Tuesday

I always figured the old guys at the New Braunfels forge meet were just being cheap when they said a metal coffee can of brine beats a fancy tank for little blades. Then I watched Ray harden a 1084 hunter in a Folgers can right there on a folding table, and it came out dead straight with no warp, twice in a row. Now I am half sold and half stubborn, because my big quench tank cost me $140 and holds way more heat. Is the can thing real for you or was I just watching a lucky night?
