Warning: I thought 28mm tires were silly until I did a 62 mile gravel ride on a friend's bike
I used to run 23mm tires on everything and laughed at anyone rolling wider. Then my buddy in Fort Collins let me borrow his bike with 28s for a 62 mile gravel loop last month, and I finished without my hands going numb. The wider contact patch soaked up washboard so well I actually stayed off the brakes on descents. I checked the pressures afterward and he was running 45 psi, which would have pinched my old setup in the first mile. Now I have 28s on my commuter and I am slowly admitting my 23s were just for show. For those of you who switched, did you settle on 28 or go all the way to 32?
