Figured out a way to seat stubborn tubeless tires with a ratchet strap instead of a compressor
Had a set of 29er tires on some older rims that would not seat no matter how much air I pushed through them. Tried the usual tricks like soapy water and bouncing the wheel, but the bead kept slipping back into the center channel. A guy at the shop in Tucson showed me to wrap a ratchet strap around the tire and crank it down tight to push the beads out to the rim edges. Hit it with the floor pump and both beads popped on the first try, took maybe 30 seconds. I have used this on 4 wheels since and it works every time when a compressor is not around. Anyone else use straps or is there a better trick for really loose fitting tires?
