The drum fill in that one song I hated turned out to be a mistake
Was listening to some old local band demos from 2004 my buddy dug up. One track had this awful chaotic drum fill before the chorus. Sounded like the guy fell over. We laughed about it for a week.
Then I looked up the recording session notes online. Turns out the drummer's foot pedal snapped mid-take. They kept it because the singer said it gave the song energy. That fill became the band's signature moment.
Found it in a forum post from the recording engineer. He still had the broken pedal as a paperweight. Been checking more of my so-called bad beats for similar stories. Anyone else trace a weird sound back to an actual equipment fail?
