Read 40 chapters of a web serial over two nights, and it beats the 300 page novel I quit in a week
Found a fantasy serial called The Wandering Inn last month and gave up on it about 12 chapters in because nothing big happened yet. Picked it back up after a friend said the payoff starts around chapter 30, and by chapter 40 I was staying up past 2am. The slow parts build the side characters so well that when things finally move, it hits way harder than a fast paced book ever does. I quit a 300 page novel in a week because it rushed everything, so why do I keep judging long stories by their first few chapters? Anyone got a serial where the first 20 chapters almost lost you, but the back half made it worth it?
