Lost $150 on a webcomic that promised payoff in 6 months
I found this slow burn story called "The Last Moth" on a personal blog. I spent maybe $150 total on Patreon and tip jars over 6 months because the author kept saying the big reveal was coming. Then they just deleted everything one day, no warning. Anyone else get burned backing a long form story like this?

I backed a serial called "Wandering Star" on Patreon for about 8 months, put in maybe $200 total. The author kept saying the next arc would wrap everything up, then they just stopped posting with no explanation. I get that life happens but the whole "payoff in 6 months" thing is a real common trick to keep the money coming in. It's one thing if the story actually finishes, but when they vanish like that it feels like they were just stringing you along. I think a lot of these webcomic folks don't realize how much trust they break when they disappear without a word.

Did the creator ever mention anything about personal issues before going quiet, or was it just straight from "next week's update" to nothing? I've seen that pattern before and it leaves a bad taste.
