I want to push back a little on the way this sub treats Andor like the final word on slow burn TV. I tried it two times and quit both times by episode 4, because nothing felt like it was pulling me forward. Then last month a coworker named Dave mentioned the show spans about 5 years of Cassian's life across its 24 episodes, and that little detail made the whole thing click for me. Once I knew I was watching a man get slowly cornered by his own choices over half a decade, the quiet stretches stopped feeling empty and started feeling like pressure building. I finished all 12 episodes of season 1 in a week after that. Here is my thing though, a show should not need a fact from a coworker to work. I still think the first three episodes could lose about 20 minutes and hit harder. Has anyone here had a story that only landed for them after someone gave them a piece of context first?
The thing that got me was when my brother told me the whole first season of The Wire is basically one long setup for a single scene in episode 10. I had quit that show twice around episode 3, same as you. Once he said that, I went back in knowing the boring stuff was the point, and it hit totally different. Same deal with Mad Men for me, someone had to tell me the show is about people lying to themselves before I got past season 1. I used to say if a show needs homework it failed, but I was wrong about that. Some stories are just built to pay off later and you have to trust the slow parts.
