How I used to keep client folders vs now - total 180

Back in 2019 when I started freelancing from my kitchen table in Austin, I had this whole system of color coded paper folders and sticky notes for every single client. I would print out email threads and highlight deadlines with a yellow marker. My desk looked like a tornado hit a Staples. Then around early 2022 I switched over to using Notion for everything because a client sent me their whole workflow and I finally got it. Now I have one dashboard with all my project timelines, invoices, and notes in one place. No more hunting through stacks of paper or forgetting which folder had the signed contract. The funny thing is I still miss the physical act of flipping through pages sometimes. Has anyone else gone fully digital and then regretted it or am I just being nostalgic about clutter?

The paper system had a tactile feedback loop that digital just doesn't replicate. There was something about physically flipping through a folder that helped me remember where things were, like muscle memory for my brain. Notion is great for organization but it killed that spatial awareness I had with paper. I think we traded a certain kind of reliability for convenience. Sometimes when Notion goes down or updates and changes everything around, I just stare at my screen and miss those sticky notes.
