Rant: took me 4 hours to figure out why my thrift store VHS tape played in black and white
Picked up a stack of 6 tapes at a Goodwill in Reno for $2 total, and one of them had a handwritten label that just said "July 4th 1993" in blue marker. Popped it in my old VCR and got nothing but black and white static with some faint audio of kids yelling and firecrackers. I figured the tape was shot on some weird old camcorder format, so I dug out my second VCR, tried a different cable, even ran it through a capture card on my laptop. Two hours gone. Then my neighbor walked over, looked at the back of the TV for like 3 seconds and asked why the yellow video cable was plugged into the green component port. Swapped it to yellow and boom, full color footage of a backyard cookout with a guy in a Hawaiian shirt nearly lighting his grill on fire. Four hours of my life for a cable in the wrong hole. Has anyone else wasted a whole afternoon on something this stupid with their old tape setups?
