Dropped $60 on a 'mystery box' of VHS tapes at a garage sale in Reno, and one of them was a 1994 instructional video for a salad spinner
So my buddy Dave dragged me to this estate sale in Reno last month because he's always hunting for old guitar pedals. I spotted a cardboard box marked 'MISC TAPES' with a $60 price tag and the lady running the sale said her dad used to record everything off TV, so I figured why not. Got home and the first five tapes were just back to back episodes of Golden Girls with commercials, which is fine but not exactly lost footage gold. Then tape six hits and it's a 47 minute instructional video for something called the 'Salad Spinner 2000' hosted by a guy in a powder blue suit who keeps calling lettuce 'the leafy enemy.' He demonstrates the spinner for like 20 straight minutes, then out of nowhere the tape cuts to his backyard where he's just staring at a bird feeder for ten minutes with no talking. I've watched it three times now and I still can't tell if it's a real infomercial or some kind of art project. Anyone else ever find a tape that starts normal and then goes completely off the rails halfway through?
Man, that tape sounds like every family reunion I've ever been to. It starts with everyone being polite and normal, then two hours in somebody's uncle is just standing in the yard staring at nothing while the rest of us pretend not to notice. Stuff like that is everywhere if you look, half-finished ideas and weird left turns that nobody bothers to explain.
