Warned my buddy in Akron about bouncing our demos to cassette, and 6 weeks later he finally heard what I heard
He ran his 4 track mixes straight to a $40 tape deck and the high end turned to mush, so now he re records everything through the interface first, and I am wondering if anyone else has lost a whole set of songs to a 'warm' sound they cannot undo?

Back in 2019 I did the same thing with a batch of 8 songs, ran them hot to a Tascam 424 right into a thrift store deck. Sounded fine on my headphones then awful in the car, all the cymbals just vanished. What saved me was reamping the clean tracks back through the tape at a lower level, like barely hitting the meters. Kept the tape flavor without squashing everything flat. Took a weekend but I got most of them back. The trick is keeping a dry copy of everything before you touch tape. Lesson learned the hard way.
