My old shop owner told me in 2011 to stop rushing my fades, and he was dead right
When I was cutting at a shop in Council Bluffs back in 2011, the owner Ray used to watch me fly through skin fades and finally said, "Slow your wrist down, the clippers will do the work." I ignored him for weeks because I thought speed was what made you look busy and busy meant you kept your chair. Then a regular named Dale asked for a mid fade before his daughter's wedding and I rushed it, left a hard line above his ear, and he never sat in my chair again. Ray just shrugged and said that's how you learn, one lost head at a time. I still catch myself going too fast sometimes, so how do you all slow down when the shop gets slammed on a Saturday?
