I finally bought a $180 set of Korean made shear sharpeners and they pay for themselves
Got tired of driving 45 minutes to the sharpening guy in Fresno and waiting a week, so I dropped $180 on a set of wet stones and a jig off a barber supply site. First pair of my $40 beater shears came out buttery, but I nicked the edge on my good 7 inch pair on day two because I got cocky and skipped the marker test. Took me about 6 tries and a whole Saturday to get the angle right, and now I do all 11 of my shears on Sunday mornings before the shop opens. That sharpening guy charges $25 a pair and I was making that trip twice a month, so the math worked out after the second round. Curious if anyone here sharpens their own or if I'm the only one crazy enough to try it.
