Finally got my clipper fade right after 6 years of cutting

Last week I was doing a mid fade on a regular client and something just clicked. For years I was using too much pressure on the lever, making the blend look choppy. I backed off, let the clipper do the work, and the fade came out smooth as glass. The guy even asked if I went to a new barber school. Has anyone else had that one move just suddenly make sense after doing it wrong for so long?

Oh man, that's the exact kind of breakthrough I've been chasing. So what changed in your actual hand motion when you backed off the lever? Like did you start using your thumb totally different or did you just stop squeezing as hard? Because I think that's where a lot of us mess up - we grip the clipper like we're trying to strangle it and then wonder why the blend looks like garbage. I've been fighting this same issue for about two years now and I'm starting to wonder if it's a grip problem more than a technique problem.
