Shoutout to the bakery on Marigold Ave that sold me a loaf with a dent in the top
Last month I grabbed a sourdough loaf from Del's on Marigold Ave and noticed a big dent in the crust, so I almost put it back. The owner said the dent came from the loaf resting against the oven door, and that batch turned out to be the best one I have had in two years. Now I look for the ugly loaves first. Does a weird shape or dent ever mean better bread for you, or am I reading too much into it?
Man, I feel you on this one because I've been burned by pretty bread before too. There's nothing worse than grabbing what looks like the perfect loaf and getting home to find it's dry and flavorless. A dent or a weird shape is just the bread telling you it got handled by real hands in a real oven, not stamped out by some machine. I'd take a lumpy loaf with character over a picture perfect one any day. You're not reading too much into it, you just figured out something most people never notice.
