Serious question, why does every recipe say 350F when 375F is what actually works in my oven
I checked my oven with two separate thermometers over the weekend and it runs 22 degrees cold, which means every cake I baked at 350 for the past year was really baking at 328. My neighbor Deb, who ran a bakery in Duluth for 19 years, said most home ovens drift and the dial is a suggestion, not a promise. So now I preheat to 375 and my banana bread finally gets that crack down the middle instead of a sad dome. If you have never checked yours, put a $6 oven thermometer on the middle rack and just watch it for 20 minutes before your next bake. Has anyone else figured out their oven's real number, and did it change how you set temps?
