TIL my 90 cent fuse saved a $280 board, but my buddy says fuses are for cowards. Who's right?

I put a 90 cent glass fuse in my bench power supply in Reno after I flipped the leads and fried a driver. That tiny fuse popped, I replaced it, and the $280 board survived. My buddy says a real tech just uses a breaker and a fast hand. I say a dime part saving a whole build is the best trade in the shop. What do you all run, fuses or just luck?
