Rant: my $7 soldering iron from the flea market vs the $45 one I bought after it died mid project
The cheap one kept cold joints on every wire I touched and the tip wobbled so bad I melted a hole in my project box. The nicer one heated up in 30 seconds and my joints finally looked shiny instead of gray blobs. What's the cheapest tool you regret buying twice before you got a good one?
Man, I feel this in my bones. I bought a $12 angle grinder from a bin store thinking I was so smart, and the disc wobbled so bad it walked the cut line halfway across a piece of angle iron and shot sparks at my shins. Then the switch died after maybe ten minutes of use, so I went and got a $60 one that just quietly does the job every time. The cheap one ended up costing me a ruined cut, a pair of pants, and a whole afternoon, which is way more than the $48 I "saved.
