My uncle's 'twist and tape' wire advice from 1998 still haunts me
Tbh my uncle Jerry swore twisting bare wires together and wrapping electrical tape was fine for a lamp he rewired in his basement. It worked for 2 weeks until the tape melted and sparked right next to a pile of old newspapers. Has anyone else gotten dangerously bad tips from a well-meaning relative?

My grandpa did the same thing with a space heater cord back in 2003. Told me electrical tape stops all shorts. Melted halfway through winter and nearly caught the rug on fire. He just shrugged and said the tape was old cheap stuff. Refused to buy wire nuts for like five years after that too.
