I ran my 3D printer off a power strip daisy-chained to another strip for 8 months
Last Tuesday the power brick on my Ender 3 got so hot it actually softened the plastic case, and that's when it hit me. I had two strips piggybacked off one wall outlet in my garage in Fresno, and the printer, a space heater, and my soldering iron were all pulling off that same 15 amp circuit. I unplugged everything and felt the wall plate, which was warm to the touch, then found scorch marks on the strip's plug. If anyone has a smart plug or a cheap clamp meter that tells you real current draw, I'd love a recommendation before I plug this thing back in.
Getting a cheap clamp meter was the best 15 bucks I ever spent, mine is a Klein from the home store and it told me my heater was pulling way more than I thought. What actually fixed my setup was moving the printer to its own circuit, the garage outlet was shared with half the house and that was the real problem. A basic kill-a-watt plug is also great for single things since it shows amps right on the screen, and for the printer it showed my Ender bouncing around during heat up. Do yourself a favor and check that wall plate situation too, warm plastic means the outlet itself might be worn out and loose, which is its own fire risk even after you fix the strips.
