I finally found out why the outlet in my grandma's Orlando kitchen kept dying every time it rained
Was visiting my grandma in Orlando last month and she kept saying the outlet by her sink would just stop working after storms. I pulled the cover off and found someone had spliced the ground wire straight into the hot screw with a bit of old lamp cord and a wire nut stuffed with what looked like electrical tape. The whole thing was sitting maybe two inches from a copper pipe that had a slow drip running right onto it. Rain must have pushed water down the wall and shorted the whole mess out. She's had three different handymen look at it over 5 years and not one of them pulled the plate. Anyone else run into a hack job that somehow survived longer than it should have?
