Vent: My buddy swears the Segway was gonna replace walking, and I just found the 2001 article that started it
I was cleaning out my garage in Columbus last weekend and found a copy of Time from December 2001 where the writer called the Segway "the most important invention since the internet" and said cities would redesign sidewalks around it. My friend Dave has been saying for 20 years that we would all be gliding to work by now, so I finally looked it up and the article literally predicted 10,000 units sold in the first year. They sold about 6,000 total in the first 21 months and the company got bought out for scraps in 2009. Has anyone else dug up a old magazine take that aged this badly, and what was it?
