That 1999 article about smart fridges said they'd order our groceries, mine just beeps at me

Found a copy of Popular Mechanics from 1999 at a yard sale in Tucson and it predicted my fridge would auto-order milk by now, but mine can't even dispense ice without a 20 second delay. Has anyone else kept one of these old mags and compared their actual kitchen tech to what they promised?
