My grandma's 1998 article said we'd never need to leave the house, and my car dying last Tuesday almost made her right
I was cleaning out my grandma's attic in Dayton last week and found a clipped newspaper piece from 1998 predicting that by 2010 nobody would drive anywhere because we'd all shop and work from home through our TVs. I laughed at it for 20 minutes straight and then my car wouldn't start on Tuesday morning. The starter went out and the shop quoted me $480 to fix it, so I spent 3 days walking to the corner store and doing everything from my couch. The whole time that old article kept popping into my head and I started wondering if the prediction was just 15 years early instead of wrong. By Thursday I was ordering groceries, paying bills, and even doing a video call with my boss without touching my car once. Now I'm sitting here staring at $480 worth of regret and a bad prediction that suddenly feels weirdly smart. Does anyone else have an old prediction that aged way better than it should have?
