Spent 45 minutes trying to shade a potato drawing and it still looks like a rock

I was half asleep at 2am and decided to draw a potato from memory for some reason. The shading took forever because I kept making it too dark on one side. After 45 minutes I gave up and now it just looks like a lumpy gray rock with eyes. Has anyone else spent way too long on a dumb little sketch that just refuses to cooperate?

Yeah flip the paper upside down and shade it that way, tricks your brain into seeing values instead of shapes.
