I paid $40 for a "midnight sketching" online class and it taught me less than 10 minutes of just drawing badly on my own
So about three weeks ago I was scrolling around at 1am, feeling bad that my drawings looked like a toddler got hold of a pen, and I signed up for this online class that promised to unlock my creative flow after dark. It was $40, which is not a ton, but it was 6 hours of video where the guy mostly talked about lighting a candle and "setting an intention" instead of showing how to actually put lines on paper. I sat through the first two hours waiting for real tips, and all I got was him saying my hand should "move with feeling" while he drew a circle that honestly looked worse than mine. By hour three I was drawing a sad cat with six legs and realized I had learned more from just messing around at 2am with a cheap pen than from his whole vibe lecture. I finished the class, drew nothing worth keeping, and felt like I paid to watch a guy be calm at me. If you are thinking about paying for one of these, just grab a pencil and a napkin and go wild for free. Has anyone else dropped cash on a class like this and gotten nothing but weird breathing exercises?
I've watched this happen with fitness apps, cooking classes, even guitar lessons online. Pay a few bucks, get a guru who spends half the time on mindset talk instead of the actual skill. The info is usually stuff you'd figure out yourself in a week of just messing around and failing. These platforms know people will drop small amounts of cash late at night when they're feeling bad about themselves.
