Water crossing planning took me 3 hours, is that normal?
Tbh I spent a full afternoon on AllTrails and 3 different forums trying to figure out the river crossings on the John Muir Trail section near Evolution Creek. I kept finding conflicting info about snowmelt timing and whether the log bridge was still there after last winter. Ended up just calling the ranger station in Bishop, got a straight answer in 5 minutes. But now I wonder, do people actually map these things out for multiple days, or does everyone just wing it until they hit the water? My buddy says he never looks past the trailhead and just reacts. Tell me your planning style, am I overdoing it or is he being reckless?
