Just realized I was wrong about hiking the AT southbound in one push
I always thought the best way to do the Appalachian Trail was to just grind it out in one go from Georgia to Maine. Then a guy named Pete at a hostel near Damascus, Virginia pointed out that hitting the Whites in October means ice and closed huts, which I never really thought about. He said he did it in two halves over two summers instead and actually got to enjoy the views instead of racing the weather. I'm now planning to flip flop it starting in Harper's Ferry next spring because of that conversation. Anyone else flip flop a long trail and feel like they made the right call?
