Crossing 300 miles made me swap my whole route planning style

I hit my 300th trail mile on the Tahoe Rim Trail last Saturday and it just clicked that my old point to point planning was trash for long trips. Turns out I spent 2 seasons obsessing over daily mileage targets when what actually mattered was elevation gain and resupply access. That number forced me to sit down and map out a full 10 day section with layover days built in, and the pacing felt completely different. Has anyone else had a milestone distance suddenly expose a flaw in how they plan their trips?
