A ranger at Grand Teton quietly rerouted me around Cascade Canyon and it saved my whole hike
I had my heart set on doing the full Cascade Canyon loop in one push last August, and this older ranger at the Jenny Lake station asked where I was headed. When I said the loop, she just said 'not today, the creek crossing is running chest deep from melt' and drew me a spur up to Lake Solitude instead. I was annoyed for about a mile, then ran into two guys who got turned back at that crossing soaked and shivering. Honestly that five minute chat was worth more than any route app I'd studied for a month. Anyone else had a ranger or trail worker send them a different way that ended up being the better call?
