TIL that I've been crimping D-Sub pins wrong for 3 years
Honestly, I was at a bench in Denver last month watching this older guy fix a comms panel, and he showed me how I was using the wrong notch on the crimper. I always used the middle slot for the wire barrel, but he said you gotta use the outer one for the insulation grip first. Has anyone else been doing it the same wrong way or was I just being dumb?

Different crimpers have different dies, so the "right" way depends on the tool. I've been using the middle slot for years with zero failures or bad connections.
