Am I the only one who switched to reading fault codes by hand after that night in Tulsa
Back around 2016 I was working a line at a hangar in Tulsa and we had a 737 come in squawking a flaky air data fault that nobody could pin down. The laptop we used for the diagnostic software kept dropping the connection every ten minutes and the guy signing off got fed up and told me to just pull the codes off the CDU by hand, one page at a time. Took me almost two hours but the fault was right there, a bad wire on a pitot heat circuit, and the fancy program had been hiding it behind a string of nuisance messages all night. I still use the boxes and screens for the heavy stuff but I keep a little notebook with the manual readouts and I trust my own eyes more now. It is slower at first but you learn the system in a way the software never teaches you. So I guess my question is do you all still pull codes manually when a plane acts up, or is that just me being old school? Curious what your go to is when the laptop fights you.
