Torque specs from internet forums, how do you trust them?

I was swapping the brake rotors on my 2012 Subaru Outback in Denver last month and found two different torque specs for the caliper bracket bolts. One forum said 85 ft-lb, another said 115 ft-lb. I split the difference at 100 but it bugged me all week. Turns out, the 2012 spec is actually 103 ft-lb per the factory manual my buddy pulled up. I have seen people post wildly wrong numbers for oil drain plugs too, like a 30 ft-lb spec for a pan that strips at 25. How do you guys verify torque specs before you trust some random post? Do you always check the official manual or just go with what the thread says? I am thinking about buying a factory subscription for my truck now, seems worth it if it saves me from a stripped thread or a loose caliper.
