PSA: the deposit on my Tampa to Phoenix car haul was gone when the driver never showed

I handed a broker $250 up front for a move from Tampa to Phoenix and the truck never came, then the phone number went dead two days later. Has anyone actually gotten money back from one of these, or is a cash on delivery setup the way to go?
