Dispatcher in Dallas told me my tie-down straps were 'rookie tight' and I finally get what she meant
Had a dispatcher in Dallas walk my trailer before a run to Amarillo and she grabbed one of my ratchets, gave it a yank, and said 'that's rookie tight, not road tight.' I had been stopping at the first hard click for 3 years and never lost a car, so I figured I was fine. Turns out I was under-tensioning by a good 30 percent and just getting lucky on short hauls. Bought a $22 tension gauge the next week and now I check every strap instead of guessing by feel. Anyone else had a load survive on dumb luck until somebody finally called them out?
