Spent 6 years eyeballing torque on lug nuts, bought a $50 split beam last month and feel like a clown
For most of my time turning wrenches I just snugged lug nuts by feel with a breaker bar and figured close enough was fine. Last month a customer came back with a warped rotor on a 2018 Civic and my boss pointed at the uneven torque pattern, so I picked up a split beam wrench from the tool truck for $50. First time I hit 80 ft-lbs on all four corners by the book I could feel how uneven my old method really was. Now I keep the wrench on the cart and use it on every wheel that comes through the bay. Any of you still running the German torque spec on wheels or did you all switch over a long time ago?
