Those apps are almost always wrong, honestly.

Actually, I've had pretty good luck with them! Sure, they mess up sometimes (like that axle thing, yikes). But for basic stuff like a check engine light, they've saved me a trip to the shop more than once. You just have to know they're a starting point, not a final answer.
