Hot take: I finally got the water spots off my black hood after 4 failed tries
I park under a sprinkler at my job in Phoenix and my black Civic hood looked like a map of the moon by August. First I tried a quick detailer spray and a microfiber, which just smeared them around. Then I used vinegar, which made the paint smell like a salad for two days. A clay bar pulled some of the grit but the hard spots from the well water just laughed at me. Last Saturday I broke out a dual action polisher with a light cutting pad and a finishing polish and went at one small 12 inch section at a time, checking with a shop light after every pass. It took me about 90 minutes to do just the hood but the spots are gone and the paint looks wet again. Now I am wondering if I should hit the roof and trunk the same way or if that is overkill. Does anybody else deal with hard water etching on a daily driver, and how often do you polish before you worry about burning through the clear?
