Old timer at a shop in Detroit told me to stop wet sanding clear coat so much
Guy named Mike over at Bumper King, like 30 years in the game, watched me spend 20 minutes wet sanding a fender after a repaint. He goes "you're chasing orange peel that ain't even there yet, let the paint flash properly and you won't need to sand half as much." I was stubborn at first but I tried his way - laid it on thinner, waited longer between coats - and now I'm saving way more time on buffing. Anyone else have a crusty old-timer call them out on a bad habit?

Yeah, the old guys usually know what they're talking about. They've seen every shortcut fail three times over. Good advice is hard to ignore when it saves you that much work.

Nah for real @campbell.nora, the old guys are like walking cheat codes. They've seen every shortcut fail three times over, like you said, but they also know which shortcuts actually work. The ones that look too good to be true usually are, but they've already burned through that lesson. It's like they have a mental catalog of every dumb mistake you're about to make. The annoying part is when you know they're right but you still gotta try it yourself just to be sure. Then you come back all humble and they just give you that look.
