Watched a squirrel chew through my attic vent screen while I ate a sandwich, and now I check my roof every Sunday
So I was out on my back deck in Grant Park eating lunch about 3 weeks ago, just minding my own business, when I looked up and saw a squirrel hanging off my attic vent like it was doing pull ups at the gym. That little dude chewed a hole clean through the screen in about 10 minutes while I just sat there with my sandwich like an idiot. I didn't think much of it until my power bill jumped $40 the next month and I could hear scratching at 5am. I called a wildlife guy out and he pulled 2 squirrels and a mess of shredded insulation out of there, plus he said the vent screen was so old a stiff breeze could have done it. Cost me $380 to fix it all, which was way more than the $15 screen I could have bought at the hardware store myself. Now I walk the whole roof line every Sunday morning with my coffee and check every vent, soffit, and gap. Does anyone else have a critter that basically became your home inspector?
