Rant: my 1920s bungalow in Ormewood Park had ice cold floors until I found the crawlspace vents
For two winters I just assumed cold floors were part of living in an old house, even after I blew insulation up in the attic. Then a neighbor who has been in Grant Park since the 90s asked if I had shut my foundation vents, and honestly I did not even know that was a thing. I cut squares of 2 inch foam board, wedged them in all 9 vents under the house, and the bedroom floor went from freezing to just cool. Cost me about $40 at the hardware store on Moreland and took an afternoon. Now I am wondering if I should be doing anything else down there before spring, like checking for moisture or sealing the duct joints. Anyone else block their vents every year?
