I used to think gutter guards were a scam until last month's storm

I mean, I always figured those mesh gutter guards were just something companies push to make a quick buck. But after that big rain we had in Decatur back in June, my neighbors gutters were overflowing and mine stayed totally clear, even with all the oak leaves. I watched the water just stream down the downspout instead of spilling over the edge like it used to. Now I'm thinking about getting them installed on the back of the house too, has anyone else had a similar conversion or did I just get lucky with the brand I tried?
