Downspout drain line clogged with clay, 3 hours in the mud

My front downspout drains into a buried pipe that turned out to be full of red clay from last month's rains. Tried a pressure washer first, then gave up and dug up the whole 12 foot run with a shovel. Has anyone else dealt with Atlanta clay clogging their yard drains, or did I just get the worst soil on the block?
