My uncle said to skip the moon and try for Jupiter with my new telescope

I was aiming for the moon last month with my Celestron 8SE, but he told me to go bigger. Got my first clear shot of Jupiter and its moons after three tries. Anyone else have a target that seemed too hard but worked out?

Ever wonder if starting with the "easy" target helps you learn the skills for the dim stuff later?

Honestly that's a pretty casual goal for a first target. Jupiter is bright and its moons are obvious even in basic scopes. The real challenge comes with the dim stuff like galaxies.
