Guy at a star party told me to stop using my phone to capture night sky shots, said I needed a proper tracker
I laughed it off for a year until I borrowed his Sky-Watcher mount and got a single 2-minute exposure of Andromeda that blew away everything I'd stacked from 100 phone shots. Anyone else stubbornly refuse good advice and waste months on bad results?

@umab86 nailed it with that humble pie comment. That first real tracked shot is a tough lesson but a good one. You gotta give props to the guy at the star party though, he probably saved you from buying more phone gear. A single 2 minute exposure on a proper mount beats anything a phone can do, even with stacking. I wasted a whole summer trying to get decent Milky Way shots with a tripod and phone, ended up with blurry stars every time. Finally caved and got a used Star Adventurer, now I can't believe I waited so long. Sometimes the loud advice at star parties is worth listening to.
