Dropped $95 on a stacked photo tripod I used twice, the $22 garage sale one holds my rig fine
Tbh I bought a carbon fiber tripod for $95 back in March after watching a YouTube video about star trail shots, and it has been in the closet for 4 months. My first night out with it, I set up at a dark spot outside Flagstaff and the wind shook it so bad that half my 30 second exposures had trails I did not want. A retired guy next to me had a beat up $22 tripod from a garage sale and his shots came out sharper than mine. I went home, dug out an old aluminum one from the attic, and hung my camera bag on the hook underneath to weigh it down. Same results, way less money and a lot less fuss. So now I am trying to figure out what to do with the fancy one. Has anyone here sold gear they barely touched, and did you use a site or just a local astronomy club meetup?
